The Holyoke Bar Association has roots that date back at least as far as 1960 when dues collected from each member were $2.00 a year. The bar association continued to be active at least through the 1980’s when at some point it became dormant. The bar association became active again in 2007 when some local attorneys decided to start an annual golf tournament to raise money for local charities-specifically in Holyoke. The tournament raised money for many charities in Holyoke from 2007-2014, including the Holyoke Boys and Girls Club, Kate’s Kitchen, The Holyoke Senior Center, various local youth sports teams, and Homework House, to name a few. In 2015, our dear friend, colleague, and avid supporter of the Holyoke Bar Association, Attorney Jorge Neves, passed away unexpectedly leaving his wife, Luanne, and three children behind. That year, we held the tournament in his honor and donated all proceeds to his children for their education. This was the largest tournament we have ever held to date, with close to 150 people golfing and another 100 who attended the dinner. This was a true testament to the affection we all felt for Jorge Neves. The tournament was held in his honor for 2016 and 2017 and a total of $50,000.00 was donated to his children. The Neves family has continued to stay involved and has helped the bar association to raise money once again for local charities. In 2018 the bar donated $7,000.00 to the Veterans Court mentors program and Soldier On based in the Holyoke District Court.
